The Problem With Ocean Science Funding
The science belongs to the scientists.
Marine science and conservation work is underfunded. The research that exists is often financed by interests, including fossil fuel companies, that have a stake in what the findings say and who gets to see them.
This is not a conspiracy theory but a documented feature of how science funding works when left to commercial logic.
The result? Vital research goes unpublished. Findings get buried. And the picture of ocean health the public, and policymakers, receive stays deliberately incomplete.
MotherOceanBlue exists, in part, to change that. We believe this critical climate and ocean data should be shared. We are in a climate crisis and simply don't have time to ring-fence this information.
The MOB Funding Hub connects corporate CSR budgets directly with verified marine scientists and conservation projects, with no fossil fuel money in the chain, no interference in methodology, and no control over publication. The findings go into a public directory, available to other researchers to build on.
How the Funding Hub Works

We assess your organisation against our criteria. You review the projects in detail. No surprises on either side.
You fund a project
Funds go directly to the research or conservation work. You receive full documentation of how they're used.
Your name goes on the work
Any publication, data set or report produced using your funding will carry your organisation's name, in the right context, with the right credentials.
The findings go public
All data produced under the Funding Hub is entered into an open directory for use by other scientists. The ocean benefits beyond any single study.
Why This Matters
Independent funding isn't a nice to have. It's a necessity.
The science that explains how our ocean actually works, how it is being damaged and how it can recover, needs independent funding. Not as charity. As necessity. We cannot afford not to understand this.
